(almost) As many comebacks as John Farnham….

St. Luke’s was treated to a great sermon on the future from Rev. Graeme Sells as he and his wife Anne took their leave at the end of the 13 month locum this Sunday(12th February 2017), just ahead of the Commissioning of Peter MacPherson as priest in charge which is occuring this Wednesday (15th February). It was the third time he has formally left St. Luke’s having moved to be Curate of St. Alfred’s Blackburn North (then Priest in Charge) and also guided us as Locum about 4 years ago.

Community, living the whole Gospel, being real and not being mumblers and grumblers at change were all nuggets to take away from the sermon and to ponder.

Ian Neil, Tony Jones, Hilary Margets, Don Frazer, Rosemary Price and Jane Goodwin all spoke about his time(s) with us, the servant leadership he displayed, the meaningful pastoring and preaching that he gave us.

The congregation presented him with a two volume History of Christianity and a book on the meanings of biblical words; Anne received the Essential Leunig having shown how great the cartoons are as illustrations to support sermons…

It was a day with a bit of sadness, a lot of laughter and some real excitement building for Wednesday when we can truly say:

St. Luke’s and St. Alfred’s: Partners in Mission
